Names in king lists
The Abydos list lists as third pharaoh of the first dynasty Iti, the Turin Canon lists a damaged name beginning with It while Manetho lists Athotis.
Depending what author and king list one refers to, it is said, that his rulership lasted between "41 complete and partial years" or up to 57 years. Goven, that for example Manetho wrote his kinglist in the 3rd century B.C., we can only assume, from which sources, he copied information form about 28 centuries earlier.
What do we know?
There is numerous evidence for Djer's actual existence, namely his tomb in Umm el-Qua'ab and some seal prints from other tombs. Also some incriptions in tombs in Saqqara and Helwan refer to him.
Those inscriptions are written in a very old form of hieroglyphs and thus are not completely translatable yet. However, a label as Saqqarah may depicts the Old Kingdom practice of human sacrifice. This indicates the forced process of declaring kings as deities rather than humans in those times.
Family
Djer was the son of Hor-Aha and his secondary wife Khentap. Thus, his grandparents were probably Narmer and Neithhotep.
Several women were buried in subsidiary tombs near to Djer'S tomb. Their burials were associated with Queen titles like "Great One of the Hetes-Sceptre" and "She who Sees/Carries Horus". These women are being thought to be wives of Djer

Djer's tomb
Djer'S tomb is often referred toas tomb Oin Abydos. Given the number of 300 retainers buried with him, and in comparison to Hor-Aha's tomb and queen tombs of the same dynasty, we can see, that human sacrifice had taken dramatic forms. This wasn'T just slaying one or two individuals ofr blood rites, here was a complete royal court slaughtered to serve the dead paharaoh in the afterlife. For those, wha are familar with Breasted's works, this is not a smooth transformation of a religious belief into an afterlife where the crops grows seven feet high but still wants to be harvested to a more feudal model. This is harsh and quick, it basically declared the kings to Gods in less than three full generations. As this, it seems to indicate different religious values between upper and lower Egypt, which were now united by force and blood.
Anything else?
Some inscriptions and the labeling of one of his year as king as the year of smiting the land of Setjet indicate, he had military campaigns on the Sinai or beyond. But no other archaeological evidence seems to support that.
Another inscription, even some consider it as a little bit questionable in it's authenticity, shows, that his kingdom reached in his days already till Wadi Halfa, into today's Sudan.

The Riha disappearance
In 1969, Dr. Thomas Riha disappeared and in the subconsequent series of events, Gloria Tannenbaum was arrested for forgery and under suspicion of two other homicides. She plead not guilty by reason of insanity and got away with it. The case has now been added to our serial killer collection.
