Libya - the New Afghanistan?

The air strikes in Libya continue, but now, they are back to the kind of operation, we have come to know from NATO and UN commands - half-hearted alibi operations.
A lot of people would agree, this is the right way. The U.S. pulled out. For one time, America isn't paying the music on her own. For a lot of people, it makes sense.
But think twice! The situation as it is now shows all hallmarks of a drawn out conflict without any progress at all. Still, it costs about $100 million per day, all involved units added up. So what is the beauty in paying $100 million per day for an indefinite time?
What's the alternative? Obviously, the air strikes could have cleared the way for the rebels up till Tripolis or, as a simple add to the service, blown Ghadafi's hide out skyhigh. My personal pity with dictators killing their own people is strictly limited. And yes, I have a tendency to speak out uncomfortable and political incorrect realities. Ghadafi is a murderer. He played it nice with the U.S. only since US fighter jets explained the consequences of blowing up passenger planes | and building c-weapon plants with European help to him. Do you remember Lockerbie? It was his calling card and that he was too scared later didn't change his intentions or ethic value - he simply was too scared to pull such a heinous trick again.

But then, who cares about dead Americans? America? Maybe! The World? Not at all. So well, since others did the dying, many claim, it is not our business. Why shall we provide such a military service to rebels, we don't even know?
First answer: Because we pay already and our only way to stop the is to end this charade as quick as possible. And to end a military campaign means "win the damn thing". It doesn't mean "cut run". For the very simple reason, that if you run, the problems follow you.
| But there is a second answer. We know Ghadafi and even if we don't know a lot about those rebels, they can't be worse. But all we saw of them yet points out, they are much better if they only get a chance to live that out. Calling out for putting Ghadafi to trial instead of killing him shows an understanding of how a civilized country works, that we even sometimes miss in our own countrymen. So, what do you fear? That they ashame you by getting democracy right faster than the US did? It took from 1776 till 1789 till George Washington became the first US President. Elected by a committee. In fact, only his second term was based on a system similar to today's and that election was in 1792 - 16 years after the War of Independence. Which, by the way, America won with help from France and Prussia. So America needed help and still 16 years, why do they need help and more than a few weeks to archive the very same? |

The Riha disappearance
In 1969, Dr. Thomas Riha disappeared and in the subconsequent series of events, Gloria Tannenbaum was arrested for forgery and under suspicion of two other homicides. She plead not guilty by reason of insanity and got away with it. The case has now been added to our serial killer collection.
