TV-advertisers, please, show mercy ... October 1st, 2012 Kansas City: Madness WITHOUT method! |
Okay, this is, opposite to most of my articles, a rather unpolitical subject. Or it would be, if the political TV-advertisers would
refrain from doing the very same things, commercial ones do to drive us, the people watching TV, crazy.
Cars.com(singing double heads): What the hell are those advertisments out to prove? That you hear voices and can't sing if you visit your website? Here's
news for you: Advertisment should serve to paint your product nice and smart, not stupid. So whoever paid for that, fire this ad-agency
you hired and get yourself some people who understand that.
Todd Akin:First, he bothere us with utter stupidity, now he still runs on the "I was stupid, but Claire McCaskill is worse" line. Damn, even
her own voters know that, tell us something new. Go in details. And please, please, tell us what are your plans. Regurgitatin the same line
over and over again is a waste of the TV viewers times and nerves. I wonder, how many voters you have already haunted away with your
unspeakable ads, Mr. Akin!
Claire McCaskill:Another news flash! We, the TV viewers, know already, politicians usually lie when they open their mouth in TV ads during
campaign season. There was no need anymore to prove that fact over and over again in your ads. If you decide to vote in every important
matter like health reform, stimulus and debt making in lockstep with President Obama, it's your political decision. When you start then to
tell people, you're oh so much in the middle because in the essential question of bath room colors you had a different opinion than Obama,
that's an ad problem becuase you demonstrate only, you think, TV viewers are stupid.
Honda's ECO-Button:Remember the "this is a car of many buttons" ad? This beats in level of stupidity even the Toyota spot with this alleged
trainer, which admittedly, was already pretty stupid. So here we go! You got a good, some would say awesome, technology build in the car you
want to sell, but instead of telling the viewer and your potential customer something about that car, all you try is to let the competition
look stupid. Which in the end makes you looking even more stupid, because people will never buy cars because you make the other guy look stupid.
They will buy your cars, because they like style, versatility and technology.
| And one more - GEICO: I mean, seriously, Columbus on a speed boat? Or was that rather your advertising agency on speed?
Stupid faces from stupid ads
Some old ads, especially from GEICO, had in the past some humor (car insurances were in general pretty funny in the last few years) and were actually fun
to watch. They did what they were supposed to, bring your name in the viewer's minds together with the very same message, all other car
insurers played. But really, what are your latest ads saying? Buy GEICO and behave like a moron?
The point, why I went this moth for the subject of ads is a simple one. Lets face it, we, the viewers, can't dodge ads. They pay the programs
we watch.
But then, those, who pay for those ads want some effect from those ads. They want us to buy their product and in this sense, a
politician isn't too different from a product. So, those people don't want to waste their money in ads, that cause in us, the TV viewers,
just a headache and a deep rooted hate against their brand. Which, funny thing, is basically, what we in front of our TVs also expect. If we
have all those ads, please, make them funny and don't leave us with the feeling, our IQ ran screaming to the basement only because we saw
your ad. There is some truth to not always a lot helps a lot.
Dear companies, please take a look at your ads, I beg you. Sears had this campaign with "it's raining cold hard facts", you may remember it.
Well, it did rain cold hard facts. The ad was one of the major reasons, why Sears numbers went down even more and they had to close ten
stores. I understand, advertisment agencies come in all day and want to sell their services to you. Often, it's hard to see, what effects a
stupid ad will have and those advertisment pros tell you, it doesn't mean a thing as long as you get your name out to the public. They are
wrong! To those, deciding about TV ads: Please, lean back for a moment and close your eyes. Imagine you sit | in front of a TV and there comes this ad that makes you cringe, that makes you almost feeling the nausea or that makes you feel as if there is someone out there, who must
think you're a completely inept stupid loser if you only think about touching this brand. Which is YOUR brand and it follows this embarrassing
tv experience in big colorful letters - so nobody forgets which brand better not to touch with a ten foot pole!
Okay, this is not a matter of global importance. When your ad comes, I can still go to the bath room. In fact, some ads cause already kind of
a Pavlov-reflex to do so. Or I can go to the kitchen and get me a sandwich. Or zap around. I can do a lot. However, the bad feeling about
your company/product remains. Those, who pay for those ads don't want that and honestly, I don't want that either. So, do me a favor, and,
in a course of enlightened self-interest, stop paying for ads which ultimatively only damage your product. Millions of people who have currently
to run screaming to the next bath room when your ad is played, will thank you. A lot of them with buying your product. So, pleeeeaaase ...
