A Writer's Career

We, Diane and I came from two different backgrounds in our writing. But then, basically, it all started with reading for both of us. For me, reading was a rare luxury when a stressful life demanded it's price and often a welcome escape into other more peaceful places. Given the fact, I read in those times Tolkien's Lord of the Ring, this may says something about the places I walked.
For Diane however, bound to family and the duty to care for others, reading was the only way out from where she was into places, I walked and tried to escape from. And while I read German translations, Diane had free access to the originals.
From this start as avid readers, I made the change to write early. Basically, I wrote already as little boy in school my first short stories, as many other do to (whether they admit to it or not). Still, I never ever thought seriously about writing as my profession. It was something, I did for me and only for me. It was a habit that accompanied me all my life. My first complete novel was in fact result of a provocation. It was also my first #1 in the emerging German ebook-market (which is by American measures still a quite pitiful thing). And to come there, someone had to find the manuscript first in a drawer and send it to a publisher without my knowledge.
In the meantime, Diane started to write too. Mainly short stories, but in this time, the first steps in the concept of a fantasy project took place. As did I, so she considered writing rather something, she didn't do for anybody but herself. And keep in mind, we hadn't met yet!
On the European side of the Atlantic I had in the meantime the second #1 in the ebook market but still made no attempt to write more. My life was pretty stressful at this time, I had a daylight job which often costed also the night hours. This went a few years on and on and the result was a third degree burn-out. I recovered, but had to make some decisions. Honestly, I didn't want to live the way anymore as I did before. And so, looking for the things I like, I decided to give writing as profession a try. Living in Germany, it was a hard game, but then, nothing worth the effort is easy in the first place.
Diane, still busy with caring for others, hadn't attempted to publish anything. The only thing, she did, was visiting a chatrrom for readers and writers. And coincidentally, I visited the same chatroom, mostly as reader to see what is going on in America (most books in Germany are in fact American books and the translations are often not that good). We met, we talked, we talked more, we talked a lot more ... we changed to private chat ... well, the rest is history. I visited Diane in the U.S., then I became a regular passenger on Delta's transatlantic route and at some point, I spent a bigger part of my time with Diane in the U.S. than at home in Germany. Which mainly drove my agent crazy because during all that travelling, the writing fell occasionally a bit short.
We solved the problem finally by marriage. On the writing front, Diane and I collaborated in some of the later DiAngelo-novels (see books) written in German and with INSIDE MIND, my first manuscript completely in English. Together, we are working on several projects which will be offered to U.S. publishers probably in 2012 while one or two new books in Germany will come up still in 2011.
This is, in short, our history. Honestly? I wrote it only on the webpage because alone this week, three people asked me in emails how to become a writer and why then to leave the country one is published in and go to somewhere else to start over from the scratch. The answer is easy, even maybe hard to understand for someone born in the US and living there a whole life: Here, writers are free to write what they want. And more over, Diane was here. So it was an easy thing to decide. And here, in the U.S. live and write the best of the World. Can you imagine a better place to learn and compete?

Affaire of the Poisons
We have added the infamous Affaire of the Poisons to our collection. With more than 80 offenders, it breaks a little the format, but well, it's one of the biggest cases of "organized" crime ever, so how can we let it out?

Michael Lee Lockhart
... and with a little delay, another serial made it into the serial killer collection. Michael Lee Lockhart, not so much interesting for his "achievements" but because his case appears as if he became a psychopath only after a serious head injury.
