Ready to surrender
July 3rd, 2011, Kansas City - Another first in the history books
Without pulling too much attention, there was a lot of action in the diplomatic world lately.
I'm talking about Hilary Rodham-Clinton, who, on behalf of President Obama takes up diplomatic contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. After it leaked out, that the US are also talking to the Taliban lately, this is the second time, this administration initiates talks to a radical Islamic organization. Or maybe already the third, we can't be sure, but there was a lot of talks with Hamas lately too.
Now, I wonder. History tells us, you can negotiate with enemies if the whole conflict is around land, resource rights, in short, mundane things. Mundane things allow compromises and that makes negotiations worth the effort.
History also tells us, you can't negotiate with enemies driven by a religious or ideological fanatism that has already reached the delusional stage. Because this kind of enemies can only accept one result: Your conditionless surrender.
Lets have a look at the three groups in question: The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt:The Muslim Brotherhood vowed to deny violence many years ago as a measure of survival because after the attacks on tourists and the killing of Mubarack's predecessor Anwar al Sadat, Mubarack was about to make tabula rasa with them.
Since then, violent members of the Muslim Brotherhood regularly attack under the label of Al-Quaeda.
Mohammed Atta - raised by the Muslim Brotherhood

Two of their best known operatives still cause a lot of bad feelings in the U.S. - Mohammed Atta, the 9/11 pilot and Aiman al Zawahiri, who just took over as Al-Quaeda's #1.
And looking in their written works, the Muslim Brotherhood is far from giving up their goal of an Islamic theocracy in Egypt and in the World.
Hamas - we don't need talk long about Hamas. Hamas can't give up the hardcore Muslim line because it's what holds them in power over their own people. They can't even if they would want and it is doubtfull, they want. Firing missiles in school buses
would make them unacceptable as negotiation partner for most civilized countries with civilized governments anyway, with the notable exception of the Obama administration - of course.
That leaves us with the Taliban. Their writings, all their public comments, all points out, they see themselves in a holy war against the Western World. A war, that because it is "holy" can only end with the defeat of the enemy - us!
So, what's the quint essence here? There is not much, we have to talk with those people unless we're ready to surrender. Are we?
The truth is, we are not even asked. Obama and his evoys negotiate and either they spend our money on something which has no chance of success but will cost us beyond money even more - or he will be the one doing the surrendering on our behalf.
We are all well aware, Obama likes his firsts in the history books. First African-American President of the US, first US President forcing the nation in default. But first US President surrendering to an enemy in a war, it seems to me over the top, even for Obama.
